A short time ago this evening the BBC announced their shortlist for the African Player of the Year for 2017.

 In the BBC's London studios presenters Peter Okwoche and Mimi Fawaz were joined by guests as the shortlist was announced and at approximately 6.50pm the voting for this years competition went live.

Voting runs until 6pm on November 27 and the winner will be announced on Decemeber 11 with the ceremony beginning at 5.35pm.

The reigning winner is Leicester City winger and Algerian international Riyad Mahrez and this year marks the 25th anniversary of the award following it's launch back in 1992.

So the list, with more of an international recognition feel to it that straight domestic duties:

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund/Gabon)

Sadio Mane (Liverpool/Senegal)

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool/Egypt)

Victor Moses (Chelsea/Nigeria)

Naby Keita (RB Leipzig/Guinea)
